Banning The American Dream

To some, the TikTok ban seems "right" and "justified" and most of that is tied to ignorance of what the app is, how it supports people, and what is really going on with the law that is threatening a ban on the app in the United States. To others, the platform has helped them realize "The American Dream" and reach the audiences who care most about their cause, goal or interest.

The parent company, ByteDance, yes, is headquartered in China. Yet, so are numerous other companies who operate in the US, or at a minimum, create and import their products to the US. Social Media applications that are hosted in the US are generating even more intellectual property and political promoting political propaganda that has been influencing the opinions and direction of conversations for  years far beyond the existence of TikTok. Facebook, "X" (fka Twitter), and the like are responsible for consuming platform member data and using it to monetize and politically charge the direction of people's feeds.

The potential impacts of banning a successful, prevalent app like TikTok in the US could have unforeseen impacts to not only its users, but especially and more importantly to its content-creator community. An analysis of the ban, created with the help of ChatGPT, could result in the following impacts specifically affecting revenue streams and individuals’ livelihoods. Note the impacts section to individuals:

January 19th is likely to result in an upheaval of social abandon from the other primary platforms and continued fight against the government infringing on people's rights to access platforms to support the freedom of speech. Banning TikTok is just the start of the hands of the ignorant reaching into the pants of Americans without asking permission to touch the intellectual property, invade a safe space to share, collaborate, investigate, browse, and explore the diverse beautiful world that people of all walks of life have been given to share their story, spread love, knowledge, and hope to an ever darkening cloud on the population of good-doers simply trying to get ahead and make something of their time here on this rock we call Earth.
